Local veneration of Alexander Nevsky as a saint began shortly after his death, becoming in the middle of the 16th century by the All -Russian. In 1723, the relics of the noble prince were transported from Vladimir to St. Petersburg and placed in the Alexander Nevsky Monastery (since 1797-Lavra), based on the place where, as they suggest, the battle with the Swedes took place. From now on, Alexander Nevsky became the heavenly patron of the young imperial capital.
