The film tells of the picture of Karl Steiben, dedicated to the dramatic episode from the life of the young prince Peter Alekseevich. It captures the moment of the Streltsky rebellion, provoked by the actual ruler of the Russian state, Tsarevna Sophia, when 10-year-old Peter was in mortal danger.
