The artist is self -wrapping
In the second half of the 1920s, the country of Soviets turned into a laboratory in which an experiment began to create new proletarian art-socialist realism.
In his large -format picture, Self -Praise depicts members of the communist youth organization demonstrating the determination of the team in preparation for the defense of the country. Despite the militaristic nature of classes, it seems that this is more about a sporting event to strengthen collective will and training individual abilities.
From the book of memoirs of the artist “My Creative Way”: “The picture was connected with the fifteenth anniversary of the Red Army. Once, driving a boat with friends, n. H. Strugatsky and l. AND. Mass, I saw a small section of the field occupied by the youth shooting range. Girls with rifles Lying shot at the target, somewhere the Komsomol members studied immediately. A group of youth stood near the anti -aircraft gun, studying the mechanism of this defense gun. Instructors worked with individual groups of girls. I wrote a sketch of a future picture … The composition of the picture is very clear. Sea and a huge part of the freshly spanned field. A group of girls, lying, develops sniper skills in the green meadow meadow. Bright, colored youth clothes enrich the color of the picture. The horizontals intersect with standing two figures in the left side and a large group in the right. Part of this group is directed to the left and behind it, the armed Komsomol members are going on right on the viewer, and in the foreground, the girl in a military suit with a gas mask closes the composition. Two sketches have survived to the composition. One of them – "Military study girl", another – "Komsomolets with a rifle""".
Members of the Communist Youth Union, captured on the monumental canvas of Alexander Samokhvalov, were the fresh power of the party. The ideals of the New World were close to these young builders of communism. Together, shoulder to shoulder, young Komsomol members stand in the ranks of a single system. The collectivism, promoted by the state, covered both ideological views in which individualism and deviation from a single course, and behavioral principles dictated by ideology were not allowed. Samokhvalov managed to grab this common spirit of collectivism, creating a generalized image of a contemporary who was formed in the conditions of "labor and feat".
