Grandian Volna’s grandiose – a vivid example of the late work of Aivazovsky. It is curious that at the time of the creation of the picture, the artist was already 72 years old. Depicting the violent movement of the waves, the painter admires the cyclopic power of nature and as if comparing the futility of human efforts with it: heavy lead clouds hung low above the waves, the abyss is about to swallow the broken ship, there is no hope and the sailors trying to be saved by saving them. The color of the picture is cold and gloomy. The painter moves away from the early romantic brightness of the palette and approaches a realistic solution.
