In the first years of staying in Italy, Karl Bryullov, along with the development of mythological topics and plots from ancient history, turns to genre painting. He creates genre scenes conveying the feeling of joy of being. The idea of the merger of man with nature, so characteristic of many romantics, was expressed by Bryullov in the work “Girl collecting grapes in the vicinity of Naples”. Romantic and simultaneous optimistic in terms of plan, thin in the picturesque system, imbued with poetic intonation, it nevertheless retains the firm basis of classicism, inherited by the artist from his predecessors.
