Venetians received all his impressions of peasant life in his estate, located in the Vyshnevolotsky district of the Tver province. Venetianov’s models were usually peasants from his village, that is, people whom he knew well for many years. The image of the peasant woman, realistically reliable, is generally generalized and monumental. The picture is quite typical of Venetianov by combining the genre and portrait.
