The artist is Kiprensky
Kiprensky painted a picture in Naples as a kind of preparatory study for the picture of the same year "Sivilla Tiburtin". In one of the letters, the artist wrote: "In order to learn well and lighting during fire, I wrote ahead, instead of a sketch, a spungeon with a candle". In another letter, he called the picture "Young gypsy with a candle guessing on the map". The picture was purchased by Count D.N. Sheremetyev.
