The artist is Ivanov

The plot for the picture was the ancient Greek legend about the feat of the son of the Corinthian king, the head of the Bellerophone. While at the king of Lichia Jobat, the hero had to fulfill his command and fight with the three -headed fire -breathing chimera. The gods gave him a winged horse Pegasus. Attacked on a chimera from the air, the warrior destroyed the monster that was emptied by the country.

The moment of farewell to the Bellerophon’s feat with Tsar Jobat is depicted. The hero in academic tradition is represented by naked. Nearby is a wonderful horse full of readiness for flight. The flying goddess Athena is visible behind them – the patroness of the warrior. On the left, behind the seated king, turning away from what is happening, stands the princess of the Dilona – she bitterly experiences separation from her beloved. In the solemn atmosphere of the picture, its main topic sounds-glorification of the feat of the ideal hero-warrior.

The picture is deprived of the unambiguity of heroic and pathetic pathos of traditional academic programs. The artist interprets the ideal image multifacetively, endowing it with purely human features: inner struggle, a sense of ease and firm determination to accomplish a feat.

The theme of the picture was set and. AND. Ivanovo by the Society for the Promotion of Artists (OPH) in 1829 "For the final verification of his abilities before departure at the expense of OPH to Italy". At the end of the summer of 1829, Ivanov graduated from the picture.
